Intrusion Detection

Located near doors, windows and other selected areas of your home/building/facility, intrusion detection sensors comprise your first level of defense. Typically, these devices are designed to respond to any attempted forced entry into the premises. The proper sensor to install depends on factors such as type of construction, lifestyle or organization culture and the product's limitations and price.

The best system is one that creates a "closed circuit." When any part of that circuit is interrupted, the alarm goes off. This circuit is a series of contact switches or sensors that are connected to windows, doors, any point that one can gain access to you property. When all the contacts are in place, the circuit is closed. These products include:

• Door Contacts - Magnetic contacts that can be attached to or recessed within the door frame to detect movement.
• Window Contacts - Like door contacts, these are magnetic devices that detect windows being opened.
• Vibration Sensors - Mounted on the window frame, these devices react to vibrations that are created if someone attempts to break or they shatter the window.
• Audio Discriminators - Frequently, several window openings can be protected by installing a device that will sense glass breaking.
• Motion Detectors - These devices provide protection by detecting movement within specified areas. They can be used to automatically illuminate an area, trigger a silent or audible alarm. These devices are typically located near the openings they are intended to protect.
